Joe Buck hating Philly: Myth or Reality?
Everyone seems to think Joe Buck hates this town, and in the heat of the moment fans might get carried away, but after going back and watching the Phillies games over again and a lot of this past Eagles game with the Vikings over again, I really don't think he was a Philly hater. He says the same stuff about the other teams as well, and when the Eagles played Dallas, he slurped the Eagles pretty badly.
Now, that doesn't mean I'm a fan of him as a PBP guy. I think his calls are very often emotionless and boring, but I don't think he is a Philly hater. Merril Hoge... now that is a Philly hater. The dude picked the Eagles to miss the playoffs when they were 7-0 in 2004. Joe Buck? I think this little myth took on a life of its own to be honest. He's been pretty unbiased IMO.

Well... he sure seemed more enthusiastic about the OTHER team's HRs and big hits than he did the Phillies'.
I don't think it's a stretch to call him a Phillies Disliker. Hater is easier to say, so let's go with that. |

Merril Hoge only did that stuff in 2004 because he hated TO and because it gained steam among Philly fans and he did it to "ruffle feathers" no pun intended.
I know someone at NFL Films. |

I get the sense Hoge carries on now as part of a shtick. And that makes what he does even dumber. My beef is these guys are paid for professional, expert analysis. Provide it. I understand you want to be a Steelers honk, ****ing go for it. Knock yourself out.
But be credible. Joe Buck is a ****.

I think Joe Buck is very professional overall and I certainly do not think he hates Philly.
I did detect a slight biasness in the Phils/Dodgers series along with the rest of Fox Sports probably because he/they would rather spend 4 days(which turned into a week) at home in LA instead of having to travel to Philly for the World Series. |

Little things like a 5 yard run by the opposition gets him all wet. It cracks me up to hear how excited his voice gets when a cowboy player makes a play and how emotionless he is when a philly player does.

Anti-(team x) bias in sports media is one of those things that, if you're looking for it, you see it everywhere. But 99% of the time it's just paranoia. I've never seen the slightest evidence that Buck has an anti-philly bias. Although the Phillies-Dodgers series was pretty pathetic. I don't think it was anti-philly, I think Buck and McCarver just sounded confused that the series wasn't going according to script.

When Samuel returned that INT for a TD, Buck sounded like a family member died. I really think there is a bias.
And please don't get me started on his commentary for the NLCS and WS. That was so over the top.

I think all the hate is imagined except for Cris Collingsworth who honestly hates this city and its fans with the white hot passion of a thousand suns.

Buck is biased against Philly, and it really showed in the Dodgers series. When he and Tim acted so devastated (to use their own words), it was really pathetic and obviously one-sided. My wife was watching (which she rarely does), and she was surprised by it.
Buck likes the Cowboys more than the Eagles; so does nearly every other member of the national media. They make for better copy... |

I don't think Buck is biased, I just think he's a condescending douchebag that lived off his father's name and never had to earn anything in his career. The fact that he does both NFL and MLB games equally as bad is astounding. I couldn't think of a worse pair than Buck/McCarver - I'd rather listen to OJ Simpson and Charles Manson broadcast a game than those two dick bags.
