Eagles Fans Need to Look Ahead
12 January 2006 | C Whitmer
At last the Philadelphia Eagles faithful can put the 2005 NFL season behind them. At this point, trying to piece together what went wrong in this passed year seems a wasted and painful endeavor for fans, but undoubtedly a necessary step for the organization itself in order to learn from it’s mistakes and move on.
However, any self-respecting Eagles fan is looking in only one direction as we enter 2006: Forward. Putting aside the players, coaches and management for just a moment, Eagles fans need to look at the next season as a sort of new beginning, where the Philly faithful can revitalize the identity of a team that stumbled as an organization in 2005.
And now that a certain problem causing, pass catching drama queen is long gone, the Eagles organization can refocus and get down to some real business.
The hiring of new offensive coordinator and assistant head coach Marty Mornhinweg is indeed a change, however the Eagles offense will still be primarily in the hands of coach Andy Reid and quarterback Donovan McNabb, leaving the overall scheme and philosophy much the same.
The Eagles will also retain General Manager Tom Heckert, a man who many thought would look to greener NFL pastures in 2006. Heckert, who is responsible for drafting some of Philly’s best talent, will be entering his sixth season working with Coach Reid.
Whatever changes are made (or not made) for the 2006 season, they will be of little or no consequence to the Philly die-hard elite.
