Why do people still give Ed Wade credit for his drafting? It was Mike Arbuckle. The best thing Ed Wade did for the Phillies was trade them Brad Lidge when he was the GM of the Astros.

Moniak's success would not have happened with the Phillies. He could never live up to the expectations of being 1-1. Part of that was the Phillies and part of that was Moniak's, but now that he doesn't have those expectations (or reminder of past failures) he's thriving. He just needed a change of scenery. I also think, despite his faults, Marsh will end up having the better career.

Ed Wade was the GM when Rollins, Utley, Howard and Hamels were drafted. He's the GM. He gets the credit for the staff under him and the picks made, as well as helping to establish the development system that prepared them.

Ed Wade was in over his head with two different organizations.

Just getting painful

If it helps, think of the pain we've caused others with Alvarado, Hoffman, Realmuto, Vazquez.
Think of how we signed Wheeler & Walker, when a huge percentage of big money free-agency starting pitchers are busts and/or albatrosses.
It all evens out.

This just isn't even remotely true.
He struggled to find the right complimentary parts but there is no getting around the drafting and development of the title team. You can hate all you want, it isn't gonna change material fact. I am not an Ed Wade fan, I wanted him fired for 2 years before he was. But I won't let those feelings cloud the fact that he drafted the 2008 core.
Period.

If I were the Angels I'd try to sell high on Moniak as a power/platoon-ONLY bat this offseason. (.309 OPS vs. Lefties)

Stellar 0-3 with 3Ks vs Scherzer so far
Getting close to 100Ks in less than 300 ABs
