Some folks now say it's 5/85, plus Cubs have to pay his Japanese team a $12M posting fee.

I liked the RHed bat options better, but OK.

Power and OBP helps.

Paying Bryant $25M next year -- if nothing else changed on the payroll -- would put the team's tax hit at less than $3M.

Phils are still about $14 million under the CBT, but I'm sure they will tell us they have to save for the trade deadline (which we all know is B.S.). I still can't believe they wasted money on Herrera. Someone in the Phillies front office likes him and that person needs to be fired. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting the same result. But, I'm excited about Schwarber. At least they did something. I still think they could do some dumpster diving with remaining free agents. In fact, Petersen, Soler and Rosario are still out there. Maybe someone in camp will surprise or maybe there is a trade out there.

There's still just no depth. One key injury, especially with having that DH spot every day, and they're going to be running some scrub Joe Millette type out there every day, which is just as bad as letting a pitcher hit.

Winkelman makes the point that if Didi can't beat out Stott for the SS job, then he's probably not someone you want at DH, either

The Dombrowski Move right now, if there was any point in hiring Dombrowski, would be to trade Bohm and Painter to the Guardians for 3B Jose Ramirez.

Salary works out, too, Ramirez makes $12M this year.

I mean, why the hell did they bring Dombrowski in?

I like the move, but with the Phils doing nothing in CF, the defense is going to be rough and the lineup is a VERY streaky bunch. Sadly I think this means the Phils are out on Bryant...to be honest, very surprised that they went with Schwarber over Bryant....he must be getting stupid money from Colorado. Now if they did get get Bryant than you could assume that Schwarber is your DH for every game except the 30 games the JT needs a break and then you put Schwarber in LF and Bryant in CF.

As it stands now, here is your lineup:

Schwarber
Segura
Harper
Hoskins
JT
Didi (DH)
Bohm
Stott
CF Herrera or Veirling

You bring in Bryant and essentially Didi or Stott will be SS and that would be that. It would be an amazing statement to the fans and the team if the Phils did bring in Bryant, but I dont think it will happen...they still need another starter that would be injury insurance, so that is where I think the money will be going. Hope Im wrong and Middleton authorized $20 over the cap
