Taylor stinks. Not interested in having that around for next year too.

Cards getting Quintana

The bonus problem in Quintana to the Cardinals is that the Phillies need either Milwaukee or St. Louis to finish behind them.
If Soto goes to the Cardinals, then we're just in perpetual scoreboard watching for a Brewers collapse.

Barry Svrluga

As the trade deadline approaches, there is a growing sense that the Padres are the most likely landing spot for Juan Soto — and, in a twist, perhaps Josh Bell too. Multiple people have heard there’s momentum in those talks.

Jayson Stark
@jaysonst
#Phillies scouted Marco Gonzales' start in NY last night but no sign of apparent traction with #Mariners, sources tell me & @MattGelb. A clear sign Phillies are trying different ideas as starting pitchers go off the board. Syndergaard still believed to top their shopping list

Any guesses on what a Phillies winning offer for Syndergaard might look like, given the competition to land him?
I could see a couple pitchers from the group of Falter, Sanchez, Miller, Morales.
Maybe SS Luis Garcia or OF Jhailyn Ortiz in the deal.

Probably prefer Mahle to Thor because they would have Mahle for next year. I'd like to see them go for Blackburn and Laureano. Also, Merrill Kelly is a controllable pitcher.

Mahle almost certainly would cost them O'Hoppe (which I'm not necessarily opposed to, pending rest of the deal)
