Pitching matchups not bad for Phillies in this series. We face two rookies. Chance to take 2 of 3 if we can win tonight vs. a guy we've already knocked around.
Suarez vs. Grove
Nola vs. Miller
Walker vs. Urias

"Prior to tonight’s game against the Dodgers, LHP José Alvarado was recalled from his rehab assignment with Reading (AA) and reinstated from the 15-day IL (left elbow inflammation). To make room on the 26-man roster, RHP Connor Brogdon was optioned to Lehigh Valley (AAA)."
Surprised to see Brogdon go.
Alvarado wasn't sharp in his 2 innings of minor league rehab. Surprised they didn't give him another outing or two

Chris,I think they just got fed up with Brogdon’s inability to give them clean innings in high leverage situations..Too much of a high wire act, close and late.
Actually kind of surprised Covey survived…

He's a kid, Bigsy. Let him work it out.
He's going through exactly what Mad Dog Madson went through when he was young. When he became a reliever, he struggled with consistency. Then he got locked in and he was lights out until he got hurt.
Brogdon reminds me a lot of Madson.

Covey's probably here until Nick Nelson rejoins the team
I'm not going to defend Brogdon; I know his numbers are kind of hollow thus far. But I hardly think he's the worst guy on the staff.
What's the Marte problem? Is it that he has no more options?

I guess, to be fair, Yunior Marte hasn't given up a run (earned or otherwise) since his meltdown in LA on May 2.
So he HAS pitched better than Brogdon for over a month.

That’s a good call,Bels. Good comp…i think they want him to work out his recent problems out of the glare
May be a confidence issue which affects his command.
Seems to get ahead and then nibble forcing deep counts and then has to throw hittable fastballs
Maybe more mental than physical. Go to LHV,work on his confidence, trust his stuff and come back soon

The big bullpen question at this point is whether we'll ever see Good Dominguez.
The bullpen was a huge part of the second-half run last year.
If Dominguez can be effective in high-leverage spots alongside Alvarado, Kimbrel, Soto, Strahm, Vazquez, then it's one of the top-tier pens in the NL.
If not, it's going to get stretched very thin in the second half without an reinforcement. I think they should put McGarry in the Reading bullpen for the next 7-8 weeks and see if he can find a groove in that role. Could become a needed weapon down the stretch

Roger Clemens throwing BP
Would be an upgrade for 5th starter
