McCutchen to the Brewers
Love all those teams making a big push for CF Suzuki.

Has anyone spotted Mids in the dumpster going for a dive for some bargains?

I'd take this with a grain of salt (RE: Opening Day), but if he's ready by late April, that's earlier than what initial projections had been:
Matt Gelb

10m
An encouraging sign for Phillies: Zach Eflin is doing an “up-down” bullpen — basically to simulate the rest between innings. Phillies are hoping he’s ready to go at start of season after knee surgery.

Yeah, that's yet another disappointing aspect of Herrera. The Phillies didn't even bother trying to wait out the Pederson market. Joc could platoon with Vierling CF, play a little LF, be the LH bat off the bench when not starting....
Basically, any of those now-FA outfielders the World Champion Braves famously traded for last summer would be a good fit here.

Re: 2022 MLB Spring Training & resumption of free agency
Throughout the off season, we've been hearing Schwarber, Bryant and Castellanos. Bryce Harper said yesterday that he expected the Phils to get one of those guys. Maybe he knows more than he is saying. Maybe he is confident the Phils will make it happen. Maybe its just a subtle way for Bryce to send a message. Maybe none of those guys want to play in Philly. It looked like Schwarber was a done deal, then the lockout hit. A story came out today that Castellanos really wanted to play with the Marlins, since he's from the Miami area, except that they haven't really been aggressive. As for Bryant, I'm not sure if he wants to play for the Phils or if the Phils even want him. With the moves the Mets and Braves have made, the Phils need one of these bats AND a leadoff hitter in order to even be in the conversation.

I think:
1. The Phillies are targeting Schwarber because he'll be the cheapest of the three
2. However, that fact that he's going to be cheapest also means there's the most competition for him
3. So the winner will have to overpay (3/70, maybe?)
4. Which negates the idea of "value" for a team playing with a stupid, self-imposed cap
5. Which is just stupid overall
6. Once money starts getting into the territory we're talking, just get the best guy. That's Bryant. If you care so much, see if he'll allow for the backloading of a five-year deal, to help with 2022's self-imposed cap

Jeff Passan
@JeffPassan
Not only does Atlanta have a new 1B in Matt Olson, it’s going to have him for a long, long time. Olson and the Braves have agreed on an eight-year, $168 million contract extension, sources tell ESPN. Atlanta locks up the hometown kid two years before he was due to hit the market.
